Cozumel is one of the most popular vacation destinations in Mexico. The largest Atlantic island of the coast of Mexico and situated just off the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula, south east of Cancun.

You can see Cancun across the water from the island of Cozumel, so its not too far away. The name Cozumel in Mayan actually means "Island of the Swallows", it is believed that this name was given due to the fact that religious temples were declared sacred to the goddess and in return she sent her favored bird (the swallow) as a symbol of gratitude and good fortune.

Although there are tons of activities available to Cozumel visitors, one in particular is worth of mention – scuba diving. Because of the stimulating coral reefs Cozumel is renamed worldwide for its excellent scuba diving as well as for other watersports. Most of the population in Cozumel lives on the western coast in San Miguel. The rest of the island is covered in dense tropical vegetation that makes another great destination for eco-tourists.

Like most "Spanish" destinies Cozumel holds a festival each year. In this case, it takes place in the small town of El Cedral in the southern end of the Island. This festival is a great opportunity for any visitor to experience the culture and tradition of Cozumel in April every year. This annual event began over 150 years ago with music, a rodeo, bull fights, feasts, and other activities. The festival lasts around five days and is a must see if you are in the area.

However there are plenty of other things to do in Cozumel. Eco tourism is a growing market within the tourism industry and Cozumel is also renamed for its biodiversity. You can find quite a number of endemic species to this island, a couple of there are many species endemic to this region of Mexico – some of which are near extinction and many of which are endangered, this attracts many visitors to wonder at the passing beauty of these species. It is both awe inspiring and terribly sad to watch some of the endangered species that live only on this island before they become totally extinct.

So, if you are a nature lover, an eco-tourist, a scuba diver or simply a sun worshiper looking to relax in the balmy year round sunshine. Cozumel is a great place to visit. You can come diving, swimming and exploring the many things to do in Cozumel Mexico and with so many Cozumel attractions the island is an great family destination as kids enjoy the schools of fish swimming close to beaches and beach kids clubs offering a lot of fun activities .
