One of the things that people like to do when they travel to a destination like Cancun is to get an "All Inclusive" package. These are the packages that give you access to some of the most luxurious resorts and give you every meal and in some cases drinks included in the price. In some cases some tours could also be included depending on the package, but should you be going for one of those packages? The answer is that it depends on the type of traveling you will be doing. If you are planning to spend all of your time at the resort and the beach then it can be a great deal, but if you want to explore the surrounding areas of Cancun, maybe not so much.
Too Much To Do
While the beaches in Cancun are amazing and worth the trip, if you just stay at the resort you will be missing out a lot. Chances are that you will want to head to places like Tulum, Chichen Itza, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, Isla Holbox and others. If you are staying in the area for 5 to 7 days that means that most of your time will be sent away from the resort, so purchasing the "all inclusive" package may not be such a great deal. It is recommended that you visit those places when you are in the area so take that into consideration.
Food Is Cheap
While the all inclusive resorts in Cancun can give you great food (and it is worth having even if you do not go all included) you should also be trying traditional Mexican food. The food at the Cancun resorts is delicious but it is designed for the tourists' taste. You may also want to try food outside of the resort in the city of Cancun, Playa del Carmen and other areas. The good news is that you can have a great, very satisfying meal for less than 5 dollars at a comida corridor restaurant. These restaurants serve very traditional Mexican food the way the locals and many tourists like it.
The Dollar Goes Far
Just as is the case with food, you will find that your dollar can go very far. A dollar is usually around 12 pesos and has been for a couple of years. When you exchange your dollars or Euro you will find that you can buy a lot of things for a lot less money than you would if you had the convenience of an all inclusive vacation. Here you have to think convenience vs. flexibility.
The all inclusive packages are by far the most convenient option, but you may be a person that likes to explore and be flexible during your vacations. Before you make the purchase you should ask yourself what type of traveler you are. If you think that you would rather have it all planned ahead then you should go for an "all inclusive", but if you like to explore and do your own planning then you should get your airfare and hotel and enjoy your Cancun vacation your way.
